While the 2014 growing season was unusually warm, temperatures were very consistent into September allowing us, for the third vintage in a row, to hang the fruit for the ideal length of time. We saw consistent, even ripening throughout, and the fruit offered up all the character and complexity that we’ve come to expect from our Rocks District vineyard.
Hints of white pepper and campfire smoke linger beneath familiar aromas of earth and dark fruit in the glass. A silky mouthfeel shows more red fruit than past vintages, yet is still distinctly savory with clear traces of bacon, rare meat, soy and umami. Finally, the finish is extended and viscous with lingering shades of violet and olive brine. Another classic vintage, with the potential to evolve into the most elegant and refined expression of our estate Rocks District vineyard to date.
